How To Follow Through With Your Weight Loss Goals (Without More Discipline)

This week on The SweatSimple podcast I'm breaking down what I would tell you about Follow Through if I was your coach.
Because the problem isn’t that you don’t have a plan. It’s not that you need more discipline. And it’s definitely not that you need to start over (again).
The REAL problem?
You don’t know how to follow through in the moment.
And until you fix that…you’re going to keep repeating the same cycle every single week.
The Weekly Cycle That’s Keeping You Stuck
Let me guess what this looks like for you…
Sunday rolls around and you go into planning mode:
“This is the week I hit my calories”
“No more drive-thru”
“No wine during the week”
“I’m locking it in this time”
You map everything out. You feel motivated. In control. Ready.
And then…
Tuesday hits. Or maybe Wednesday. You’re stressed, tired, something unexpected comes up—and suddenly?
You’re not following through.
You hit the drive-thru. You snack at night. You skip the workout.
And just like that, the plan falls apart.
So what do you do?
You go back to planning.
You tell yourself you need to be more disciplined. More strict. More “on it.”
But here’s the truth most people miss:
Planning isn’t your problem.
Why Planning More Isn’t Fixing Your Consistency
I know my audience.
You’re Type A. You love a good plan. You know how to build a balanced plate. You’ve probably tracked calories before. You’ve had weeks where you were super consistent.
So when things aren’t working…your instinct is to double down on the plan.
But if you’re constantly thinking:
“Why can’t I stay consistent with weight loss?”
“Why do I keep starting over?”
“Why can’t I stick to my diet even when I want to?”
It’s because you’re solving the wrong problem.
You’re trying to fix a follow-through problem with more planning.
And those are not the same thing.
The Real Reason You Can’t Follow Through
Here’s what I would tell you if I was your coach:
There is ALWAYS a reason you’re not following through.
And it’s usually one of these:
You’re actually under-eating during the day → leading to nighttime snacking
You’re relying on willpower instead of skills → so you fall off when life gets hard
You have an all-or-nothing mindset → so one slip turns into “I’ll start over Monday”
You’re stress eating or boredom snacking → not actually hungry
You don’t have a plan for real life → just best-case scenarios
But most people never stop to identify this.
They just go back to:
“I need to try harder this week.”
Which is why nothing changes.
What Actually Needs To Change
If you want to learn how to follow through with your weight loss goals, we have to shift the focus.
Not to:
A stricter plan
More rules
More discipline
But to this instead:
👉 Understanding what’s happening in the moment when you’re NOT following through
Because that moment?
That’s where everything is decided.
Not Sunday. Not your plan. But Tuesday night when you’re tired, overwhelmed, and standing in the kitchen.
That’s the moment we have to solve for.
The Shift That Changes Everything
Inside coaching, this is exactly what we do.
Step 1: We identify why you’re not following through Step 2: We build the skills to handle that moment differently
Because once you solve that?
You don’t need to keep starting over. You don’t need to rely on motivation. And you don’t need a “perfect week” to be successful.
You just…follow through.
Even when life is busy. Even when things aren’t perfect. Even when you don’t feel like it.
