If you’ve ever said “I just don’t have the willpower” when it comes to eating better, working out, or staying consistent… you’re not alone.
In fact, most women I work with believe willpower is their biggest roadblock to fat loss and healthy habits. They feel strong in the morning, motivated at the start of the week, and then completely drained by the end of the day—especially when it comes to food decisions at night.
But here’s the truth: losing willpower isn’t actually the problem.
In this episode of The SweatSimple Podcast, I’m breaking down the willpower myth that’s keeping so many women stuck in an all-or-nothing cycle—and sharing the mindset shift that completely changed one of my 1:1 coaching client’s ability to stay consistent without feeling restricted or burned out.
How to have more will power for weight loss
For years, research suggested that willpower worked like a muscle:
You have a limited amount
The more you use it, the more tired it gets
By the end of the day, you’re basically out of it
This belief explains a lot of common struggles:
You pass on the Starbucks drink in the morning
You say no to the breakroom donuts
You hold it together all day at work
And then… dinner rolls around and suddenly pizza feels inevitable.
So we blame willpower. We assume we “used it all up.”
But newer research shows something very different—and honestly, pretty empowering.
New Research on Willpower (This Changes Everything)
More recent studies show that willpower is not limited at all.
But our mindset around willpower impacts our ability to use it(or not).
In this episode of the Sweat Simple podcast I'm breaking down what the mindset is that allows us to have MORE willpower, plus a few additional ways to need LESS willpower overall.
